I've had this unit for almost 6 months now. I have two external Hard drives one is a Simpetech 3.5" 250 gig powered by a wall adapter and the other a seagate 2.5" 160 gig pocket drive powered by the usb bus. Both keep getting "ejected" here and there out of the blue. The seagate usb powered one more then the simpletech. I'm using 1.07 of the firmware hopefully this is fixed in version 1.08!!!When its working its great tho!!!!

I received the D2 about two weeks ago. Nice piece of gear. Very convenient with no cd's or Vinyl to walk around with. If you want to go digital with out a computer, for the price this is the piece for you.

This is a good product but very slow search feature and loading Mp3s is slow too. Over all I do like it. I just hope they come out with new firmware that fixes these problems
I must say i have been looking at the "D2 Director" since March 15th,2007. I was amazed at the quality of this product.I have bought several numark products and have always been satisfied! I purchased it about 1-1/2 ago ,and since then i have been using it at gigs every weekend. Not only am i amazed at how fast i can find tracks,blend,beatkeep,and even scratch , but it is so simple to use , especially if you use a 320 gb external harddrive like i do. The library is a gift that i will always use , because i can just type in a letter in the search bar ,and eevry track,album,etc will pop up! The audience i usually play for are stunned by this mechanism , which will soon replace cds. BOTTOM LINE: 10/10!

This Unit Rocks I would recommend this product for the DJ who wants to go all digital. No need to take your Cd’s with you anymore, I have use this Numark Media Player on five DJ gigs since I got it and it worked flawlessly. The only downside is adding the files with the library software takes a long time like 1 hour if you have 20,000 songs, but other than that Djing has never been easier. The best feature is the play list which you can add your favorite mix’s or songs and access them with the touch of a button on the provided keyword which makes this player stand out from the rest. What are you waiting for buy this player!!

Be sure you check with Numark as to what external hard drive brands they recommend. Some do not work well at all with this unit, particularly if they are not self-powered. Also be aware that to use a HD that's at all large, you may need to reformat it, which again (for me, anyway) involves calling Numark to get instructions. All that said, once you are up and running, the unit works great. My library is about 6000 songs, and the search function via keyboard is fast, but only as accurate as your tagging. The unit is easy to use, and the Crate feature especially puts this above other units I have researched. Disappointingly, changing the pitch to any great degree affects the vocal, and the beatkeeper is marginal at best, but I don't use either one very often. For the money, this is the best of its kind currently available.

This unit is a great way to eliminate quirky glitch prone Laptops. No fussing with third party software. Simply plug and play.
Only two cons on this unit - 1) Only USB connection - a firewire connection would be helpful and speed up searching. 2) with over 15000 songs on my external hard drive, it takes a long time to search for one song.

I've been DJing with CDs for the last 9 years and have always been leery about switching to a computerized system for my music because I felt it wouldn't be as flexible as I wanted it to be. I was looking for a system that still had instant start, seamless loop, stuttering effects and others just like my dual CD deck. This is the system I've been looking for. Not only has it changed my life by not having to load hundreds of CDs out of my trailer, but now finding requested songs is as easy as ever! I highly recommend this product to any professional.
For the price this is a cool piece of gear! as in one of the other ratings ID your songs as accuratley as possible and use the numark Librarian software this will speed up and enhance the D2 performance It reads Hard Drives I even tried my flash player on it and no problem. I have not had a chance to try an I Pod on it yet. I used an ext.
Hard drive delivery for my first gig (an oldies dance) It worked like a champ. I think Numark did a good job on this design Like any new piece of gear study it and practice with it before your first show or gig You should be in good shape Oh! check on Numarks site for updates it seems like they're on top of the firmware and Librarian updates

This is a great product. It works very good and makes the DJ experience so much easier. I would recommend the Numark D2 to anyone who wants to spend more time on the crowd and less time juggling CD's.
I tried it for two hrs, and took it back. like I said they had a good idea but pushed this out to early needs alot of work.

This ia great product for the price. Updates are easy to install. Right out of the box, D2 is easy to understand, no surprises. The only problem is that the beat Keeper is not as accuratte as it need to be, and this controller slow down a whole lot when I connected my hard drive, which contain 86,000 songs. The procesor in this unit is quite slow for large hard drives. Other than that, this product does what it says it does. If you want better performance, have your MP3 Tag correctly. Also build your library with your home computer. This will ease the search process and helps out a lot.
